The Florida State University System has banned Chinese social media platform TikTok on devices owned by state universities, along with other applications, software, and developers such as Kaspersky, VKontakte, and WeChat, citing the persistent risk of cyberattacks. The move requires institutions to remove these technologies from any Florida university system device and block network traffic associated with them. This ban comes as the US government continues to scrutinize TikTok over national security concerns, and a bill was passed by the House Foreign Affairs Committee that would give President Joe Biden the authority to ban TikTok completely in the US.
